Be aware that freelancers will flag you down on the street entering town, offering 2 hr rush tours  with no english speaking guides, even saying Río Lagartos Adventures and even restaurant LA TORREJA,   has closed—don’t believe them.

We are at the only Palapa Restaurant on the waterfront.

Flamingo Boat Tours In Rio Lagartos,Yucatan .

 

The flamingo boat tours begin at the "La Torreja" restaurant,on the waterfront in Rio Lagartos.

(50 meters from the lighthouse).

The well maintained launches are captained by experienced bird guides who will take you on a memorable boat ride to the feeding grounds of the flamingos(40km total).

43,000 Flamingos  have been recorded in the Yucatan, the  majority of which nest and feed in the Rio Lagartos area. 

 

 Along the way, your guides will point out and identify many of the species that live and visit the area such as:

 

Great Blue Heron,Tiger heron,

Snowy Egrets,

Roseate Spoonbills,

Anhingas, Frigates

Common Black Hawks,

Osprey, Woodstorks,

Kingfishers and White Ibis.

 

A total of 388 species have been

counted in the Rio Lagartos. 

Crocodiles are normally spotted each trip.

 

The return trip includes a stop

at the salinera(salt ponds) in Los Colorados to swim and float effortlessly in the high salinity of

ponds(like the Dead Sea)

followed by a "Bano Maya",with the fine white clay mud and the choice of a swim at a nearby beach or in a fresh water spring.

 

 

The trip ends at the restaurant

"La Torreja" where you can enjoy a lunch of fresh, locally caught, seafood and ceviches.Beer,wine and liquors are served.

 

 

 The flamingos can be seen all day but the best time is usually in the morning.
