Yucatan  Tarpon FlyFishing & Light Tackle, and much more in Rio Lagartos ,Yucatan.

One of the major Tarpon spawning areas is in Rio Lagartos,Yucatan.Every year the giant tarpon return around the end of May and stay as late as mid September. The young tarpon are here all year in large quantities.June,July and August and the first half of September are the best months for a chance at the giants.

The 65 kilo tarpon above was caught on June 22nd 2010 by Johan(lower right) an avid Dutch fly fisherman fishing Tarpon for the first time. The fish was hooked about a mile from the shore and was worked to the beach to land it  without injuring it.After the photos it was revived and released. The weight was based on a length and girth formula. More photos of this catch

Baby Tarpon, Giant Tarpon,   Snook  ,  ladyfish   and    Jacks   are just some of the possibilities here in Rio Lagartos.

The quiet protected waters of the lagoon and the extensive system of estuaries provide fly fishing and light tackle opportunities regardless of weather .

Access to the open Gulf of Mexico is only 2 kilometers from the waterfront.

Trolling, light tackle and fly fishing on the Gulf are all possible but more weather dependent.

The waters in around the Bio-Reserve offer a great variety of species.( 99 species of fish have been recorded by biologists here.) (see the Complete list in the FLORA and FAUNA page).

We offer guided trips for experienced fishermen and lessons for novices.

We also offer family fishing with equipment included.
